Among the exhibits of the most ancient Spanish drugstore in Penyaranda de Duero, which is partly a museum now, one can see a piece of white coral. In the reference book Palestra Farmaceutica Quimico-Alencia (1792, p. 672), one can read the following phrase, “Light-coloured coral is the only type of coral, used in medicine. It was important to find out the cause of this difference.  The source of drinking water for islanders from Tokunosima and Okinawa is rainwater that accumulates in natural reservoirs. These islands appeared on coral reefs like many other islands of the World Ocean. However, the coral of these islands is unusual, and it can be found only there.  Among 2500 coral types, this one has a unique composition of   elements, that are essential for a human being (such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, etc.) This is the very coral type that makes water curative.  Besides, its structure is similar to that of human bones, so, it’s widely used in prosthetics.
