How’s a child’s health formed? Medical aspect of this question is difficult to separate from our life in general – poverty, famine, violence, addiction to cigarettes, alcohol and drugs – all these aspects affect a child’s future health.
As far as nutrition is concerned, nowadays all medical men acknowledge its importance. There’s an obvious close connection between nutrition and health: it’s in energy, adaptation, immunological reactivity and aspect of antioxidant depot forming. For instance, if we add tomatoes into a baby’s diet 3 times a day, it’ll get 3 times more chances to stay alive than the baby who’s got tomatoes once a day while feeding up.
Unlike an adult’s formed organism a child’s organism builds itself from the micronutrients, which it will never be able to produce by itself; so a child’s organism depends strongly on the food it gets. If it’s provided with these micronutrients in required quantities, then it’ll form itself in the way to have resources for lifetime. That’s the luggage that we put into our child’s rucksack when he sets out on a life journey. Quality nutrition must accompany a child’s development until the time he becomes quite adult. Otherwise, a child will react abnormally on his surroundings. And this reaction will come along with diseases, reduction of life span and deterioration of life quality.
Even a short break in optimum child’s nutrition means considerable loss of differentiations. Deficiency in quality nutrition (vitamins, microelements, enzymes, indispensable amino acids and fatty acids) during first six years of a child’s life is the cause of many chronic diseases and premature aging when being an adult. The most sensitive are nerve tissues, immune systems and blood system – that’s where minimal deviations in nutrition cause breakdowns.
Nowadays, there’s a large number of such diseases. The second important aspect of a child’s health is a pregnant woman’s nutrition. If a mother-to-be takes sufficient amount of nutrients, she’ll give birth to a healthy child. These are new opportunities to prevent and treat many diseases.
In 2004 prevalence of diseases of children from 0 to 14 was 1790,91 per 1000 of correspondent population, in comparison with 1343,6 in 1990. Sickness rate – 1307,39 as against 1070,0. Serious problems are miscarriages (reproductive losses are 40 000 yearly) and barrenness and sterility that are found with about 1 million of married couples.
According to the researches of sickness rate in Russian Federation the number of active tuberculosis cases with children has increased in comparison with year 2002 for 35 %; it was 8,8 per 100 000 of children population (in 2001- 6,9, in 2002 – 5,7).
More than 68 000 children suffer from chronic diseases of respiratory organs (51,1 %), bone- and- muscles system (6,5%), digestive organs (6,3%), eye diseases (5,3%), genito-urinary diseases (4,7 %) and others.
Immunity strengthening and regular preventive measures taken in order to avoid contagious and especially parasitical diseases play a significant role in a child’s and a future adult’s health. Nowadays, it’s especially difficult to fight with different contagious diseases because of high adaptability of their pathogenic organisms on the one hand and because of toxic effect that modern pharmaceutical means have on a relatively weak child’s organism on the other hand. That’s why it’s especially important to strengthen immune system and to take early and regular preventive measures against contagious diseases in order to form long and quality health of a person.
