LIFE SPAN OF A 21ST CENTURY PERSON

During all his life man is affected by external factors of environment: the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, effect of electromagnetic radiation, foodstuffs – all these factors affect life span of a person. Influence of absorbed and consumed substances from different spheres directly affects Mankind’s health, and so, its life span. And the proof of it is statistics of living standards of population, life span of which considerably differs in various countries. According to the results of general census of the population of 2002, in Russia there was registered the shortest life span in Europe (not counting countries of CIS). As reported the leader of State Committee of Statistics Vladimir Sokolin, the average life span of the Russians was 75 years: 58 years with men and 72 years with women.

With this figure Russia is inferior to Byelorussia (68,5 years), but it’s ahead of Armenia (66,59), Moldavia (64,62), Tadzhikistan (64,68), Uzbekistan (63,9), Kirghizia (63,56), Kazakhstan (63,28), Azerbaijan (63,08), and Turkmenistan (61,1).

In the countries of the former USSR the longest life span is registered in the Baltic states, the average citizen of Estonia lives about 70,1 years, Lithuania –69,2 and Latvia – 69.

The average life span in the countries of former CIS, namely in Russia and Ukraine- is slightly more than 65 years.

“The positive tendency of declining death rate, clearly seen in 1995 – 1999, unfortunately, wasn’t steady”, noted Minister of Health Zurabov. According to him, the number of the deceased per one thousand was 16,4 people, what is “a very high index”. As to the death rate (16,41 deaths a year per one thousand of the population), in 2004 Ukraine occupied the shameful 25th place among 226 countries, where statistics data were collected, i.e. in 221 countries death rate was lower than in Ukraine.

Why life span of the population is shortening, why in some countries this index is 2 times smaller we’ll try to know from the general survey of today’s ecological situation on the Earth.
